Summit consists of more than 30 academic libraries in Washington and Oregon that allow their users to directly borrow material from other participating libraries. This combined catalog contains over 22 million items.

When you use WorldCat Local, you can search specific groups, one of which is the Summit Libraries. Besides the Gallagher Law Library, four other law library catalogs are included in Summit:

  • John E. Jaqua Law Library (University of Oregon)
  • J.W. Long Law Library (Willamette University)
  • Paul L. Boley Law Library (Lewis and Clark Law School)
  • Seattle University Law Library

UW School of Law faculty, staff, and students may borrow materials directly through Summit when using WorldCat. They may also use and check out library materials from any of the 30+ member libraries they visit in person by presenting their UW Husky Card.

Other users who are registered to borrow items from the Gallagher Law Library may search Summit, but they may not borrow materials via Summit.

Placing Requests

Placing a request for an item found on Summit is easy.

Once you find the item you want, use the "Request This Item" feature. When prompted to “Choose your library…” select University of Washington Law. Then you will be prompted to enter your UWNetID and password.

The item will be delivered to the Gallagher Law Library. UW law students can obtain the items requested at the Circulation Desk. Items requested by UW School of Law faculty and staff will be delivered to their mailboxes or offices.

Note: Summit borrowers generally cannot access e-books and other licensed commercial sources that are linked from Summit catalog records. Links to freely available web sources (such as documents published by U.S. government agencies) are the exception.

Loan Period

The loan period for items borrowed via Summit is 6 weeks. No renewals are allowed.

Returning Books

Return books and other items you have borrowed through Summit to the Gallagher Law Library Circulation Desk or any other library that participates in Summit.

Please direct questions to the Resource Sharing Librarian, by phone (206/543-4262) or email. You may also consult the Summit pages on Borrowing Material and/or Help.
