Document Delivery (previously called Copy & Send)

In certain instances where a member outside of the UW Law community has a need for a unique source held only by the Gallagher Law Library, Law Library staff can scan a portion of these materials and send them by email.

We will scan and send material only when a specific, correct, and complete citation is given. We cannot conduct legal research on your behalf.

Cost

We do not currently charge for our document delivery services. As such, we reserve the discretion to decline your request due to limited staff resources. Please keep your requests reasonable. If you have questions about the reasonableness of your request, you can write to us to discuss your request with one of our staff.

We fill most requests within two to three business days. We cannot fill rush orders at this time.

Copyright

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purposes other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copy order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
