Policies

  • Who can use it?

    • Scanning Services are available to anyone not affiliated with the law school.
    • If you're part of another library, a librarian, or a member of UW Law, please use your regular ILL channels first - or email us for guidance. We're happy to help point you in the right direction.
  • What can I request?

    • We can provide scans of unique print materials held only by the Gallagher Law Library that aren’t available through another public library in Washington State.
      • Please note:
        • If materials are available through a UW Libraries-licensed database, it isn't considered unique and we're unable to scan it.
  • Can I get scans of Washington Practice?

    • Unfortunately, we can't provide scans from Washington Practice or other materials available through Westlaw Campus Research.
    • Westlaw Campus Research is available to all UW Libraries borrowers from any UW Library location.
  • What if I'm not sure what I need or whether you own it?

    • If you need help identifying material for your legal research needs it's best to start by reaching out to our Reference Librarians at lawref@uw.edu
    • Once you have a specific, complete citation, we'll be glad to scan and send the material if it meets the above criteria.
    • Please note that we're not able to conduct legal research on your behalf.

The Gallagher Law Library is a depository of Court Briefs

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purposes other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copy order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
