Law Student FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) by law students and answered by law librarians can be found here

Database Registration and Access

As a UW Law student, you have access to many specialized databases from our library. Some of these databases, such as Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law and CALI, require you to register with an individual account to access them. UW Law students can find registration information for each of these databases here:

If you have questions about our databases or the registration process, please contact us at lawref@uw.edu

Research Guides

Research guides are law librarian-curated compilations of resources related to a particular topic or area of law. Beginning a research project by finding a relevant research guide can save you time when figuring out first steps. The Law Library has a robust collection of research guides intended to help you with your research on topics ranging from Washington State legislative history research to immigration law. While these are a good starting point, remember that you can always contact us for help finding and navigating resources! You can find a full listing of our guides here:

A few of our most popular guides include:

Lost and Found

The law library lost and found is accessible to law school community members only and holds the lost and found for the entire building. The lost and found bin is located within the Research Office, underneath the sliding window. There is a clipboard and inventory list next to the bin where found items are listed and include where they were found and the date (if known).

If you are looking for an item that does not contain personally identifiable information, or appear to be of significant value, it will likely be in this bin. Examples: water bottle, jacket, charging cord, notebook, etc.

If you are looking for an item of value, or that has personally identifiable information, it will be stored in a locked file cabinet at the Circulation Desk. Examples: Husky Card, wallet, phone, ear buds, etc. Please contact or visit the Circulation Desk if you have lost an item of value.

At the end of the quarter, any unclaimed items are sent to the central lost and found in the HUB. You can find more information about the UW Lost and Found here.

We do not monitor the lost and found bin. We expect law students to use the honor system and only take what is theirs from the bin.
